Dogs love adventures, but not all of them are made for it. That’s what a big, fluffy, 5½-year-old dog named Kato learned the hard way.
One Sunday, Kato went on a hiking trip together with his family in Maxwell Falls trail in Evergreen, Colorado. Around one mile from the trailhead, the fluffy pup got too tuckered out to finish the hike. No matter how much his humans tried, they couldn’t coax him into going again.

Because Kato is big 120-pound Great Pyrenees, carrying him down the mountain was not an option. So, his humans had no other choice but to call for help. They contacted the Evergreen Fire Rescue whose volunteers immediately came to save the pup.
It is not unusual for the rescue team to receive calls for help from hikers of Maxwell Falls. The trail has some steep areas and trekking it can be rigorous. However, it’s not always that they receive calls about a “dog in distress” in the middle of a hike. Still, the team didn’t hesitate to help.

The fire department’s public information officer, Stacee Martin, said that they’re always ready to help any animal in need regardless of their situation. They do rescue missions on them all year-round. Their team is made up of volunteers, so Kato’s family didn’t have to pay anything for the rescue.
The rescue team brought with them a stretcher to carry the poor fluffy pup to safety. According to Martin, Kato was alert but was in great need of help. When he saw the rescuers, he gave them a look of relief.
Hopefully, Kato will feel better soon and in the future do other types of adventures that he can fully enjoy. But, in case he or other animals need help, it’s nice to know that rescuers are always there to save the day.
