A woman from St. Charles, Missouri, owes her life to their family dog – thanks to their white German shepherd named Max. Sue Sanford was putting on her makeup and was getting ready for the day when she fell and lost consciousness. Her husband, Jesse, was downstairs, just about to leave for work. Lucky for Sue, her dog was with her before she slipped.
After seeing her mistress sprawled on the floor, Max immediately looked for help. The loyal dog caught Jesse on time and got his attention. According to Jesse, Max was whimpering and spun about three times – his way of telling his human to follow him. Jesse immediately followed Max upstairs and was horrified to find his wife lying on the floor, unconscious.
Jesse called 911, and as soon as the paramedics arrived, Sue was rushed into the hospital. She was brought to the operating room for life-saving surgery. According to Dr. Amer Ashekhlee, a neurologist, Sue had suffered a stroke. It was of a fatal kind, but because she was given medical attention right away, Sue survived.
If it weren’t for Max, Jesse would have never known that Sue fell. It could have ended tragically for the couple. But Max knew something was wrong with her mistress and alerted Jesse on time. Max became Sue’s hero.
Amazingly – all thanks to Max – Sue spent only three days in the hospital. She came out from the ordeal unscathed. She had no side effects despite the stroke being deadly. Stroke is a vascular disease that can be fatal without medical intervention. In Sue’s case, life-saving surgery gave her a second chance.
Dogs are loyal creatures that would do anything and everything to save their owners’ lives. Good boy, Max. You are, indeed, a hero.
