Gardenia, a hairless dog, wandered the streets of Houston, Texas, for months in the hopes of finding help. One night, when she saw a woman in a parking lot, she decided to take a chance. The hopeful pup approached the stranger, who immediately gave her some food. Then, before Gardenia realized it, a leash was slipped over her neck.
It turned out to be an animal rescue team, who wanted to help Gardenia find a foster home. They posted her video on Facebook, which Caitie Evers immediately noticed. According to Caitie, she has become known as the sucker for dogs with mange. People always send or tag her on posts about stray pup with this condition.
Caitie knew that while Gardenia’s appearance may seem scary to some, most likely, it also hides a sweet dog, who wants nothing but be loved. She soon picked Gardenia up and took her home. According to her, after rescuing dogs like Gardenia from the street, all they usually want to do is sleep. So, Caitie ensured that Gardenia was comfortable and brought her to the vet.
The vets said that Gardenia had demodectic mange, which is a noncontagious skin disease. They can easily treat it with medication. Aside from mange, Gardenia also had secondary infections because of the mange that she has had for a while. The condition was so bad that her entire back was raw.
While the mange was healing, Caitie could tell how uncomfortable Gardenia felt because she was very timid. All Gardenia wanted was to hang out without playing or snuggling. Caitie said that Gardenia looked miserable like she had already given up.
Thankfully, through antibiotics and medicated baths, Gardenia’s fur slowly began to grow back. Her bubbly personality started to bloom too. Caitie said that Gardenia turned into a goofball, who loves pouncing and playing. She also fell in love with Caitie’s German shepherd.
Now, Gardenia is so fluffy and beautiful. She also found loving parents, Bri Tripaldi and her fiancé, who followed her story from the beginning. According to Bri, she knew that Gardenia would make an excellent addition to their family, and she was right.
