When the COVID-19 pandemic plagued the world, the number of dog adoptions increased. Many people working from home decided to adopt pooches to have companions. However, now nations are slowly recovering, many people are returning to their old setups. In turn, the adopted dogs are negatively affected.
A two-year-old Labrador named Colby was one of those dogs. As the COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, his suffering began.
Left behind in the wilderness
When Colby was adopted in the middle of the pandemic, he might have the impression that his life would become much better. But then, his heartless family left him behind in a desert in Arizona. He neither had a collar nor a microchip.
A rescue shelter named Southwest Oasis Labrador Rescue discovered the pup and decided to take him in. The said animal organization did everything to locate Colby’s humans. But it became clear to the caretakers that the dog was intentionally left behind.
As a result, the poor Labrador suffered from severe anxiety. Nevertheless, the rescue shelter said that the dog remained sweet and friendly. However, Colby’s nervousness and anxiety might make finding a new family much more difficult for him.
He’s still looking for a family
Currently, Colby is living with a foster family. But he isn’t ready for adoption just yet. The Southwest Oasis Labrador Rescue wants to make sure first that the dog’s anxiety is already manageable. That way, he will be able to find a family that will suit him better.
Colby is still young, and he has a lot of chances to find a new and loving home. He is a playful pup who needs a companion who loves to play and exercise. He’s into swimming, long walks, and playing fetch.
And here’s a simple reminder: if you’re planning to adopt a dog, remember that it’s going to be a life-long commitment. Be the person your dog needs, and never ever abandon it.
