Workers from a lawn care company found an emaciated one-year-old Husky on a lawn in Georgia. Nobody knew if she was dumped there or she crawled there. They had to carry her to the shelter because she could not stand by herself.
The director of Second Chance Rescue NYC Dogs, Jennifer Brooks, was heartbroken over the dog’s condition. She was amazed at how the puppy could still be alive because she weighed only about 10 pounds. She was even lighter than a cat.
They started calling her Ferngully, and they found out that she was not microchipped. She was very willing to eat, but they had to start her with small meals. They also gave her antibiotics and gastrointestinal medications.
Her recovery took several weeks, but she slowly regained her strength. Everyone who had been taking care of her was very happy to see her stand and take her first steps. They could tell how grateful she was by the way she greeted them and the wag of her tail.
Even though Ferngully was not put up for adoption yet, the organization received many adoption applications. They had to announce that they would not be receiving more because the applications were overwhelming.
When Ferngully was ready for adoption, the workers at the organization had to make sure that the adopter would be someone who would completely love her because the first year of her life was spent suffering. They chose a woman named Audrey.
Ferngully and Audrey hit it off the moment they met. Audrey could not imagine how small she was when she was rescued and vowed to fatten her up some more. When they got home, Ferngully got along well with her fur sister Lula. She was so happy to play in the backyard with her.
Ferngully was affectionate. All she wanted to do was cuddle and soak up the attention.
Ferngully’s unpleasant past was behind her. She was thrilled to go on adventures with her family. She had an insatiable thirst for life that she found joy in ordinary things. She could look forward to a long and happy life with her mom and fur sibling.
