Caring for an animal is also one of the best methods to take care of yourself as recommended by many professionals. Of course, this is aside from the usual self-love and self-development that you have to do. This is why some individuals find the motivation to care for a pet or rescue dog so they can not only help an animal but also help themselves in the process. Perhaps for many people, rescuing an animal is a great way and inspiration to begin rescuing oneself.
This was precisely the situation with PJ, a recovering addict.
PJ recognized the need for change in his life. He wanted to get a dog in order to spend more time outdoors. That is when he discovered Clove.
Clove is a pit bull that was almost euthanized twice. Therefore, she really needed rescue this time because the third time may not end in the same way as the previous two times.
When PJ saw Clove, he realized they were a wonderful match. Considering all that Clove had endured, PJ made it a point to show her how amazing the world can be.
He started taking long walks and runs with her. Clove cherished this and her newfound independence. She also began to trust her new owner and gradually overcome her shyness.
Regarding PJ’s personal growth, his ability to appreciate the present while interacting with things in his environment did wonders for his maturity. He also expressed his belief that every dog deserves a life that does not involve living inside a kennel. And we couldn’t agree more, as there is something very beautiful about going outside and enjoying what the world can offer.
Since PJ began sharing his experience, many have been encouraged to make positive changes in their own lives. In addition, he attested that getting a dog can be a wonderful catalyst for experiencing all that life has to offer if you lack motivation. Perhaps dogs and humans are friends for a reason – we make each other better, just like Clove and PJ did to each other.
