Dogs make excellent companions because of their loyalty and cleverness. They know when we humans need comfort or when we are anxious. But most of all, they have more compassion than most humans do.
A stray dog from Campinas, Brazil, made the headlines after he rescued a newborn baby tossed into the dumpster by its heartless mother. The homeless dog was scavenging for food in the dump when it saw the hours-old baby. The dog immediately took the baby to the nearest house he could find. When the owners saw the baby, they immediately rushed it to a nearby hospital.
The hospital staff took the baby under their care. After a few hours, the doctors then declared the baby to be unharmed and in healthy condition. Without the stray dog’s help, no one would have known that an innocent baby has just been ‘discarded’ like thrash. The doctor also added that the baby may not have survived the ordeal if the stray hadn’t found him on time.
Unlike the innocent baby boy’s heartless mother, the stray dog knew he had to save the weak infant. Despite being a dog, he had the ‘human’ sense to treat the baby as a living thing, not some trash that must be thrown away.
Meanwhile, the baby is doing fine – thanks to the quick actions of the stray dog and timely human intervention—no wonder the stray was hailed as a hero. Dogs are just incredible. The hero dog was a stray without training and relied on his survival instincts. But he showed he was more ‘human’ than the baby’s cruel mother. They have shown us they are more than just man’s best friend, so we must treat them with love and respect.
