Who can forget Dug, the happy-go-lucky dog from Pixar’s hit Up? Dug showed how wonderful and affectionate dogs are by constantly repeating “I love you” through his hi-tech dog collar. Well, this sci-fi piece of tech is about to become reality.
A group of South Korean scientists invented a necklace that uses artificial intelligence to translate a dog’s bark and interpret its emotions. Petpuls presented their incredible invention at the Consumer Electronics Show 2021.
How It Works
Petpuls first built a database that contained more than 10,000 barks from 50 breeds of dogs in 2017. In 2020, their scientists developed a proprietary algorithm that can analyze dogs’ emotions based on their barks. Seoul National University tested the necklace and found out that it has an average accuracy rate of 90% in emotional recognition.
The unique necklace has microphones and voice recognition technology and connects to a mobile app. This app can inform the dog owner whether their friend is sad, angry, relaxed, anxious, or happy. The device can also track the physical activity and amount of rest that the dog gets.
Helping Owners Understand Their Dogs More
Dogs provide their owners with companionship, love, and attention. The benefits of being a dog owner are well-documented by scientists. Dogs can help us deal with stress, which is probably why the adoption and purchase of pets increased in 2020 during the pandemic.
Unfortunately, some new dog owners regretted their decision because they didn’t know how to communicate with them properly. Petpuls hopes to prevent this by helping owners understand how their dogs feel, improving their relationship.
Would you like a necklace that can show you exactly how your dog feels? It’s amazing how new technologies can enhance our relationships with furry friends and improve their lives. With this handy gizmo, I’ll no longer have to second-guess myself about what my furry friend wants.
