Bill Dorris, a businessman, owned Lulu, an eight-year-old border collie from Nashville, Tennessee. He always left his beloved dog Lulu with his friend Martha Burton, 88, whenever he goes on a business trip. According to the news outlet, she took full custody of Lulu following Mr. Dorris’s death last year at 84.
Ms. Burton, on the other hand, will not have to spend her own money to care for the dog because Lulu’s late owner included her in his will. According to the document, she will inherit $5 million. All of which must be spent solely on the dog’s expenses.
A conservator will oversee all of Lulu’s expenses, approving and reimbursing Ms. Burton for all the money she spends on the dog. During an interview with News Channel 5, Ms. Burton tried to recall Lulu’s relationship with her owner. She admitted that she’s not really sure.
All she knows is that he might’ve really loved the dog. According to the outlet, the monetary value does not imply that Lulu is free to spend her money however she wants. As the will specifies that Ms. Burton will only receive reimbursement for reasonable monthly expenses.
Ms. Burton claims that she and Lulu could never spend $5 million. But she smiled as she told News Channel 5 that it wouldn’t hurt to give it a shot. Although the outlet did not mention where the trust’s remaining money goes after the border collie’s death, Vanity Fair claimed that any leftover funds are usually left to a person or charity.
Mr. Dorris owned property along Interstate-65, where an infamous statue of Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest stands. According to the news outlet, the probate court will be the one to determine the fate of the statue and the rest of Mr. Dorris’s properties.
