Concerned citizens observed a small gray Chihuahua exploring an open area near a major roadway. They feared that the dog would become lost and be struck by a vehicle. These individuals then contacted the non-profit organization Hope for Paws. Upon recognizing the urgency of the situation, a three-person rescue squad rushed to the location.
Highly skilled rescuers recognize that a rescue operation in an open location will be extremely challenging. There is ample space for the stray dog to escape. Additionally, they avoid leading the dog onto roads with heavy traffic. When the squad arrived, they surveyed the area before searching for the stray dog.
They discovered the dog in a field between the Los Angeles River and the railroad lines, sitting by a railing. The lead rescuer was disheartened because there was no way to capture the dog. Therefore, he decided to sneak up on the puppy and hoped he wouldn’t be noticed.
The man, armed with a big net, approached the dog carefully and stealthily. There were many dead branches and leaves on the ground, making it quite difficult. Each step generated noise. The two other rescuers positioned themselves so that they could prevent the dog from reaching the busy roadways.
As the rescuer drew closer, the dog eventually became aware of his presence. Surprisingly, the dog maintained his calm disposition. He made no effort to flee or even look at the weird man nearby. This allowed the rescuer sufficient time to aim and throw the net over to the stray dog.
The dog instantly became distressed and began barking and writhing. The rescuer swiftly approached him and began to calm him down. They were able to return the puppy to their facility, where a veterinarian conducted a comprehensive examination. He was named Diesel.
Soon after, he was placed in a foster family, where he flourished within days. Diesel, the Chihuahua, along with several other rescue dogs, is looking for a permanent home.
