Any dad would be protective of their children. If you see happen to see a dog towering over your daughter who is lying motionless on the ground, you would also assume that the dog may be responsible for injuring your daughter. It’s a horrific sight and that’s exactly what happened to the DeLuca family in Florida.
The DeLuca family has always adopted dogs from animal shelters. They are big on second chances and are they always had dogs in the family. After their dog passed away, they decided to adopt another dog. They ended up choosing a German Shepherd named Haus from their local animal shelter.
When the family adopted Haus, he was already two years old. However, Haus quickly adjusted to his new family and forever home. He’s protective of his human siblings and he’s also playful and loved collecting his toys in the yard and guarding them.
Everything seemed to be quite going well for the DeLuca family. However, something happened that almost ended in tragedy. One day, Haus and one of the DeLuca kids, Molly, decided that it’s a great day to play out in the yard. Molly was picking up dog toys in the yard when Haus suddenly started jumping frantically.
Molly’s dad taught that Haus lunged at his daughter, who fell on the ground and started to yell Haus’s name ordering him to stop. However, Haus just wouldn’t stop jumping forward and back. When Molly’s dad went over, he suddenly saw the real reason why Haus was acting strangely.
It turns out that there’s an easter diamondback rattlesnake in the yard. It’s one of the most venomous species of snakes in North America and it could have easily killed a child. Apparently, Haus saw the danger and shielded Molly with his body to avoid getting bitten by the snake.
Haus was bitten three times but he stood his ground protecting Molly. After the snake was gone, Haus was in terrible condition. He was limping badly and he couldn’t even pick his head up. The DeLuca family rushed Haus to the nearest veterinary clinic where he was given nine vials of antivenin to combat the venom from the snake bites.
Thankfully, Haus made a full recovery and the DeLuca family couldn’t be prouder of him. The DeLuca family is grateful that Haus protected Molly from what could have been a tragedy. It’s safe to say that Haus would be having extra servings of steak slices for dinner and tons of belly rubs. Here’s a video of how Haus risked his life to save the life of his human sister.
