Patients at the Hospice House in Saline Memorial Hospital eagerly await the weekend. This is because their favorite guest comes and visits them every Sunday. During that time, the residents have a huge smile on their faces, and their days seem brighter. This is thanks to a young man named TJ and his friendly service dog, Corey.
TJ knows full well the troubles and hardships that hospice patients go through. The Arkansas resident was born with tardive dyskinesia and cerebral palsy. Because of his condition, his nervous system is affected, and he frequently has uncontrollable movements. His parents got him a service dog to help him with his daily activities.
The best support
Corey is a chocolate lab that underwent extensive training to become a highly effective service animal. Ever since he became a part of TJ’s life, the dog became essential to his owner’s life. He would do a wide variety of tasks for TJ.
On command, the dog would pick up items, close or open the lights, shut the door, and many more. But what is even more valuable is when TJ calls on his best friend for comfort. The lovable pooch would snuggle next to his owner and would even place his head on his chest.
Whenever the young man felt sick or sad, the dog would be there to give him emotional support and lots of comfort.
A welcome guest
For many of the residents in the Saline Hospice House, the weekly visits of TJ and his dog are the highlights of their lives. Many of them don’t have family and friends that come to see them. Having the friendly dog around makes them forget all their troubles. The happiness Corey brings is priceless.
The visits are also a great joy for TJ. He has always had trouble socializing, and now he has made lots of friends. Their common love for Corey has broken many barriers.
