Rescued dogs often have a lot of issues. Some strays have skin diseases, while others are malnourished. It was rare for The REAL Bark, the local shelter in Mexico, to see a paralyzed dog that was still thriving.
Saving Thor
A woman walked around town and saw Thor, a paralyzed Pitbull, dragging half of his body on the street. The dog was severely emaciated and barked at passers-by for food.
The woman thought that the dog was dying, so she decided against calling the animal rescue. After a few hours, she was back at the same spot and saw Thor struggling. This time, she called for help.
The shelter brought Thor to a few veterinarians, but all of them wanted to put the dog down. None of the vets believed that the dog would be able to walk again.
The volunteers at the shelter saw that Thor had the most fighting spirit. The dog was always on his feet even though his rear end wasn’t working. Nobody at the shelter wanted to give up on him.
Thor’s recovery
The first nine months of Thor’s recovery was focused on improving his health. When he looked better, the trainers focused on regaining strength in Thor’s legs.
The trainers massaged Thor’s legs every day. One morning, everybody was surprised to see that Thor regained tail function.
Out of nowhere, Thor got up and walked. He was a little bit off-balanced, but there was no stopping him. After seeing Thor’s progress, the shelter decided he was ready to be adopted.
Lea, a woman that followed Thor’s story online, went to the shelter and fell in love with Thor the moment she met him. She brought the dog home and treated him as her beloved pet. Lea loved Thor the way he was, and she was determined to give Thor the life he deserved.
