Noodles, a guard dog, lived with his owner, Elke Vogelsang, at Hildesheim in Germany. The unfortunate pooch’s human buddy, Elke, rescued him from a kill shelter in Spain.
According to Elke, she cherishes Noodles and her other dog, Scout. Years ago, her husband collapsed in the bathroom but got rushed to the hospital in no time, thanks to her two pets. The diagnosis for her spouse is devastating – a severe brain hemorrhage caused by a ruptured aneurysm. If the two dogs hadn’t alerted her then, she would have found her partner too late, so both dogs are genuinely her treasures.
One day, Elke heard of a comedy pet photo contest. She immediately took snaps of Noodles to join in the competition. As a dog owner with a soft spot, she mentioned that she would donate a portion of the prize to an animal rescue cause if she won.
Fortunately, the image of Noodles bagged the Mars Petcare Comedy Pet Photography Awards. The judges decided on hailing Elke’s snap of her dog, whose tongue hung out in front of a sign that says ‘Guard dog on duty’ as the champion. The two won a total of £3,000 prize for the picture.
As promised, Elke donated money to a rescue shelter. As to her, it felt great to get linked to something that would make people happy. The photo contest also had three aims: to celebrate the positive impact pets could bring to their owners’ lives, raise funds for the Blue Cross Pet Charity, and increase awareness of homeless pets in the UK.
Meanwhile, there were other categories in the competition. Among the winners was Malgorzata Russell, with Basil peeking under a fence, who won in the Cat category. There were also three horses named Gossip Girls, who triumphed in the Mighty Horse category.
