Eldad Hagar comes across pregnant stray dogs often during his rescues for Hope For Paws. He knows that these pooches urgently need help, especially with the safe delivery of their babies. Because of this, the rescuer makes saving expectant homeless pups a priority.
One such would-be dog mom lived on the streets for months until it’s almost time for her to give birth. A concerned individual, Sonya, fed her during this time, but unfortunately, the pooch didn’t allow anyone to get too close. Sonya thought it’s best to seek help from experts to save the pup.
Eldad arrived at the location just in time for Sonya to feed the dog. The rescuer introduced himself and thanked the Good Samaritan for calling in about the pooch. He also enlisted her help in his plan to capture the heavily-pregnant pup with as little distress to it as possible.
The rescuer instructed the Good Samaritan to lead the dog into a yard so they’ll have an easier time securing the area around it. They offered the pooch food to help coax it inside. For over an hour, Sonya tried to lure the pup, but it felt too nervous about being in an enclosed space and walked away.
Eldad persisted and continued enticing the dog to enter a yard. Fortunately, after a while, it did. Quickly, Eldad and Sonya surrounded the exit with removable fencing to prevent the pooch from taking off again.
The rescuer then went in to look for the dog while Sonya stood by the barrier. When Eldad tried to approach the pooch, it made a break and ran towards the street. Fortunately, Sonya caught it bravely before it got away.
Eldad then secured the dog with a gentle snare. The pooch struggled against the restraint, but both the rescuer and Sonya tried to calm it down. Once the pup relaxed, Sonya put a Lucky Leash on it and named her Sally.
Eldad brought Sally to the hospital for a bath and a check-up to ensure she and her babies are healthy. From the hospital, she continued to her foster home with the Lovejoy Foundation, where she gave birth to Mustang, Wilson, Nova, and Chevy. Sally and her family now await joining their forever home.
