Hurricane Laura caused a lot of destruction in Louisiana, many of which were fatal. Many residents were forced to evacuate after losing their homes. However, not only humans were severely harmed. Animals were also endangered, and many pet owners were separated from their animals.
Henry Roach, a veteran of the Iraq War, faced a daunting issue. During the evacuation, he had no choice but to abandon his beloved cat, Savage. He was responsible for his mother, and there was no room in the vehicle for the German Shepherd. It pained his heart to leave him behind, and he vowed to return as soon as possible.
When Henry returned to retrieve his pet, Savage was nowhere to be seen. Along with his home, his fence was destroyed by the wind. A neighbor reported seeing Savage flee the yard in search of a safe place to survive the storm.
Someone discovered Savage after he escaped and brought him to the local shelter. As the facility was also destroyed, the shelter staff put up temporary shelters where they placed all the dogs and cats displaced by the disaster.
Despite all the debris and the serious damage to his home, Henry prioritized the search for his dog. He walked around in a fog, unable to completely comprehend the results of the disaster that was all around him. And after a bit of walking, he arrived at the open area where the makeshift shelters had been built.
Henry began to search the area when he heard a familiar bark. It was Savage who had spotted his owner, and had become really excited. Henry turned and spotted his dog. The dog’s tail was wagging furiously because he was pleased to see a familiar face.
The dog’s owner then revealed to the volunteers that Savage belonged to him. The two were happy to have escaped one of the most devastating natural disasters that had happened.
