During a dreadful blizzard in Missouri, the local shelter spotted a very hairy dog stuck under a van. The dog looked like he was almost frozen to the ground. The rescuers did their best to rescue and change his life.
Rescue mission
The stray dog had long dreadlocks that made it hard to tell which side was his face. The blizzard was ongoing, and the dog looked like he could freeze to the pavement.
Donna Lochmann, one of the rescuers, thought of a way to pull the dog out. Although the stray was being uncooperative, the rescuers did their best to put on a leash and tug him out gently carefully.
The dog was whimpering the entire time while Donna was telling him to calm down. She wrapped the dog up in a towel and brought him to their van.
The team quickly made their way to the nearest vet. The doctors tried their best to get the dog warm and started working on his hair cut off. It was a very long process considering how matted up his hair was.
Once the dog got comfortable, he started to trust Donna and the other rescuers. He looked so relieved after getting all the dense hair off him.
The vets wanted to do a few Xrays to see if the dog was alright. They discovered that there were breaks in his pelvis that required immediate surgery.
The rescuers posted the dog’s story online, and a lot of people were willing to donate for the cause. Donna was so happy to see a lot of people sending their prayers to the dog. They decided to name the dog Pilgrim.
Brand new dog
After having the surgery, Pilgrim stayed at the vet clinic for about three weeks. The dog was able to rest and had made a complete recovery. Once he was allowed to go out of the clinic, he was assigned to a foster family.
Pilgrim’s foster family fell head over heels for him. It was the first time that the dog finally had an actual home.
The family was so happy to have him that it didn’t take long before they decided to adopt the dog. They wanted to rename him Oscar, and he fit right in the household.
For someone that was just wandering the streets, it was amazing to know that the dog was now in a comfortable lifestyle and had a fresh start towards a good life. Donna and her team were grateful that they had an opportunity to help Oscar and lead him to his new home.
