Stray dogs who lived a harsh life will have difficulties adjusting to a better life. This is where foster parents play a role in helping dogs get through this adjustment. Here’s a story of a street dog named Belle and her journey to become a domestic dog.
A rescuer named Prue found Belle because of a friend who contacted her about a stray dog. Prue went to Bali, Indonesia, to commence the rescue operation. What she saw was an emaciated dog with no hair and one who refused to go near anyone.
Prue used cat food mixed with sedative pills as her main tool to lure Belle. The operation was a little chaotic because Belle could go anywhere she pleases. However, the rescuers got lucky when she went inside a garage. Belle became drowsy enough to allow Prue to slip a leash on her.
Belle was very scared of anyone, regardless if they were trying to help her. Prue speculated that she might have had a traumatic past. Despite Belle’s, attitude the people at the veterinary clinic did their best to help her.
Belle stayed in the clinic for three weeks to decompress and allow her hair to regrow. Prue was worried for Belle because she seems like the type of dog that no one would adopt. At least that what she thought at that point in time.
Just when Prue was feeling lost, a friend of her named Kaho contacted her. She wanted to volunteer as Belle’s foster parent. Prue agreed without any second thoughts.
For the first two weeks, Belle would hide under a bed. She would growl whenever Kaho tried to approach her. Fortunately, she eventually got out of hiding. Kaho’s two other dogs also helped Belle become more sociable.
Kaho decided to adopt Belle. She surely knew that it would be hard for her to adjust if she goes to another owner. Belle was a perfect fit with Kaho’s other dogs.
