Although many people are now choosing to adopt dogs from animal shelters rather than buy them from breeders, there are still so many dogs that don’t find their forever homes. The sad reality is that most people want to adopt puppies or younger dogs that have more energy and longer lives to live.
People don’t want senior dogs since they’re nearing the end of their lives. Despite not having as much energy as younger dogs, older dogs still have so much love to give. The saddest part is that many senior dogs are abandoned or surrendered by their families when they show signs of sickness or old age.
A Beagle named Maple is one of the many examples of senior dogs that were abandoned by their families. Maple had multiple health issues and looked terrible. Her owners didn’t groom her for so long that she started to smell and her nails grew so long.
Maple’s old family just wanted to get rid of her and decided to give her away for free on a post on social media. The post also stated that Maple needed to be gone by the weekend or she’ll be taken to the veterinarian to be euthanized.
Thankfully, a woman named Taylor saw the post. After telling her boyfriend about it, they both agreed that they wanted to save Maple’s life. The couple contacted Maple’s old family and drove three hours just to pick Maple up.
After picking up Maple, the couple immediately realized that Maple’s life with her old family wasn’t an easy one. Maple looked defeated but she seemed quite relieved when she was out of her old home and into a new one.
It took some time for Maple to adjust to her new home and family but after she felt loved by her new humans, she started coming out of her shell. One big factor that helped Maple adjust was when she met Taylor’s other rescue dog named Cooper.
Maple’s life now is a very clear contrast to what she had before with her old family. She’s now living the last years of her life in comfort and happiness thanks to her new family. Here’s a video featuring Maple’s story.
