Have you experienced wanting to adopt a dog you saw online only to realize that the dog is far from where you live? This was what happened to a family from Baltimore after seeing Patrick, a Chihuahua, on a website.
Patrick was abandoned by his former fur parents when he started losing sight and developed other medical conditions. It is usual for a dog to get sick once he reaches old age. But what is not normal is a fur parent giving up on his dog because of old age.
When the family from Baltimore learned about Patrick’s condition, they wanted to open their home for the poor dog. However, Patrick is sheltered in Dallas, Texas, which is 1,300 miles away from Baltimore, Maryland.
Fortunately, there were well-meaning dog groups that would like to help Patrick reach his new family in Baltimore. Dallas Pets Alive, a non-profit organization in Texas, took the senior dog in the meantime. The organization then kept in touch with Animal Transport Team (SWATT), another organization that transports homeless animals to their new families.
Southwest Airlines is one of the many airline partners of SWATT in this initiative. Jonathan Doe, who works as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines, is one of the dedicated volunteers at SWATT. The selfless flight attendant agreed to accompany Patrick to his new family in Baltimore.
Together, the two made a three-hour trip before arriving in Baltimore, where Patrick’s new family eagerly awaited him. At the airport, it was a lovely meet-up between Patrick and his new fur parents, who also had other senior dogs.
The new dog owners thanked Jonathan for his kindness in accompanying the dog outside his work schedule. Patrick’s new fur parents promised they would take good care of the senior as they do with other old dogs under their supervision.
