Walter Hollier from Roun Rock, Texas received the most devastating news at the start of 2018. Walter was diagnosed with Stage 4 liver cancer and his doctor said that he only had three to six months to live. He already accepted his fate, that was why he already made final arrangements before he would take his final breath.
One of the most difficult decisions that he had to make was finding new homes for his two beloved dogs, Doc and Diego. Walter knew that it would be easy to find Doc a new home, but it would be challenging for Diego to find one because he was a big and old dog. Diego was an eight-year-old Red Heeler who weighs around 50 lbs.
Walter made a post on his Facebook account to call for someone who would like to take Diego home.
Surprisingly, Walter’s post became viral! It gained 26,000 reactions, 18,000 comments, and shared 84,000 times. Walter didn’t expect that he would receive that amount of responses from random people. The people were saying well-wishes to him and some even volunteered to adopt Diego. He was even featured in local news.
Before the weekend ended, Walter was able to find a perfect place for Diego.
The Last Resort Recovery Center located in Smithville, Texas, happily took Diego to help the rehab patients on their way to recovery. The Last Resort Recovery Center was a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center for men that is in 51-acres of land with barns, horse stables, fish ponds, rolling hills, and walking trails. For sure, Diego would enjoy living in this spacious place.
No photos nor videos were taken when Walter left Diego at the recovery center. This was to protect the privacy of the patients under their care. It was a bittersweet moment for Walter, but at least he knew in his heart that he did what is best for his beloved dog.
