Rosa Garcia works at the Miami International Airport as an Operations Specialist. One day, while she was at the Lost-and-Found office, a man came and surrendered a Shiba Inu named Penelope. According to the person, the dog was in a crate left all alone near a security checkpoint.
The security team tried their best to locate the dog’s owner, but after hours of searching and waiting, no one showed up to claim her. It seems that even the staff of the aviation company who took the dog to Miami couldn’t find or contact the registered owner.
Temporary foster
There were so many things that lingered in Rosa’s mind. Was Penelope, or Penny for short, abandoned? Did the owner somehow forget where to get their pet? Should they turn over the dog to a shelter?
Rosa knows fully well she couldn’t leave the dog alone in the office. She was not sure what to do next. So she called her husband, Cristopher, an airport employee at the same airport, and told him about the situation.
While pondering what to do next, the couple noticed that Penny was well-behaved. She was also very affectionate and appeared housebroken. So they decided to foster the dog while waiting for her owner to come back for her.
Employees of the month
For the next three weeks, the couple took good care of Penny. Then, a call came from the dog’s owner. Apparently, he had a medical emergency and was rushed to the hospital. Nobody knew that his pet was left behind.
When the owner learned that his pooch was safe and doing well, he was relieved. The man soon reunited with Penny and was very grateful to Rosa and her husband. They went well above and beyond their duties.
The couple was named Miami International Airport’s employees of the month for their efforts.
