Good Samaritan Elizabeth Hernandez contacted the local rescue group Hope For Paws about a homeless dog. She mentioned that it stayed at an abandoned residence nearby. Rescue partners, JoAnn and Alex, quickly responded.
The rescuers initially went to the dog’s location during the night. The darkness and the pup’s nervousness, however, worked against them. They found the pooch out of reach under a shed, so they decided to go back in the morning for a better opportunity.
Elizabeth met with JoAnn and Alex the next day to help. The rescuers devised a plan where Elizabeth will distract the stray with food while JoAnn will sneak up on it. Alex, meanwhile, will block the entrance to its crawlspace.
The women put their plan into action, and JoAnn almost secured the dog. However, the nervous pup caught on to her and went for its crawlspace. Seeing Alex at the entrance, it settled with retreating to a far corner of the property, ensuring that none of the rescuers would get to it.
JoAnn approached the pooch from one side while Alex covered the other. The rescuers continually tried to earn the dog’s trust by giving it food. Cautiously navigating the pup’s nervousness, the rescuers finally got both a gentle snare and a Lucky Leash onto its neck.
The rescuers named the dog Mimi and then brought her straight to the vet. Despite her restlessness, Mimi never showed aggression towards JoAnn and Alex. After a refreshing bath, she even showed appreciation by finally letting her rescue friends pet her.
Mimi is now with LA Animal Rescue as a foster. There, she’s having a great time with her new best friend, Electra, also a rescue dog. They are happy and safe with their foster family, and they wait for the day when they both find their forever family.
