Lily’s world was headed to a quick end until a bigger calling saved her life. The 5-year-old Beagle/Corgi mix was picked up from the streets and left in a high-kill shelter. If no one adopted her, it was very likely that she was going to be put down. .But fate stepped in; Lily was needed for a higher purpose.
Lily’s life was saved when she became a part of a group of dogs that were taken in to participate in Paws and Stripes College. It is a program that trains shelter pups, especially those that are at significant risk of being euthanized, to become service dogs. The program pair dogs with inmates for their training and usually last around eight weeks.
Lily’s new role
After completing her training, Lily was sent to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. Her main job is to be the sweetest and most adorable employee there. To be precise, Lily will comfort victims of crime, especially children.
Lily is handled by Detective Janeen Henley-Freeman, who is the investigative liaison of the Department of Children and Families. Both of them would mainly focus on sex crimes, missing persons, child abductions, and exploitation crimes. While an investigation is going on, and crime victims are being investigated, Lily will assist in removing stress from the victims. She is there to calm them down and help speed up the investigation.
Lily’s co-workers are all praises for the lovable dog. The sheriff said that ever since Billy joined their department, they have noticed a significant positive change, especially in highly sensitive cases. Lily makes a significant difference, just from the moment she walks into the room. Victims feel more comfortable and can relate their experiences better. People tend to open up more when Lily removes the stress and pressure that they feel at the moment.
