You can’t deny that most shelter dogs have been traumatized by their abusers before they were rescued. As a result, a whole lot of them find it hard to form a bond with their caretakers. Some are even anxious at the mere presence of a human.
Clementine used to be one of those dogs. She had a rather sad past; she was actually supposed to be euthanized, but a woman named Chelsea Elizabeth Cossairt saw her picture online. This led to Clementine’s adoption.
Clementine refused to look at anyone, but eventually, she underwent a stunning transformation. Here’s her incredible story of survival.
A new lease on life for Clementine
When Chelsea met Clementine for the first time, it was clear that the dog had never experienced love before. Chelsea explained that the dog was absolutely scared of people and wouldn’t look anyone in the eye. For months, the dog would shake all the time, hide behind the furniture, or sit facing the wall.
Whenever anyone would come near Clementine, she would just bow her head. However, Clementine trusted other dogs. She gravitated to her new siblings named Maple and Moose. At this point, Chelsea saw a glimmer of hope – a possibility that Clementine could grow to become a happy dog.
Clementine has changed!
After multiple sessions with the veterinarian and months of treatment, Clementine started feeling better. She stopped shaking, and eventually, she got the courage to look her fur parents in the eye.
Several months later, Clementine started staring at her mom. It seemed that it was her new favorite thing to do. Chelsea said that Clementine had become very attentive whenever she was talking to her.
Clementine was still wary of people, though. She was still easily spooked by her owners if they move too quickly. Nevertheless, one cannot deny that this brave and strong pup has come so far.
