Locals from a small province in South Korea noticed that an unknown animal started to wander at night. Worried about their safety, they called for help and contacted the animal welfare group in town. They waited until midnight to see what the creature was and they were astonished when they discovered it was a little brown dog.
Apparently, the pup dug a hole in an unmarked grave up in the hills. Everyone thought she was a stray, but except for the dirt she had on her body after digging, she looked pretty clean and healthy. And so, the responders decided to watch her for a while.
Soon, a woman came approaching. She called out the name Ppoppi and the dog hurriedly went out of its little cave. It seemed to recognize her voice and the rescuers suspected she was the pup’s owner, and they were right.
Ppoppi joined her family four years ago. She always slept in her doghouse down the hill and never spent a night somewhere else. But a few weeks earlier, she just refused to go home and insisted on staying inside her little den.
Her family lured her back home they failed to make her stay. Even when they used a leash to keep her from running away, she struggled but managed to free herself. And once again, she hurriedly went back to her cave.
Left with no other choice, Ppoppi’s family simply continued to bring her food and water. And then, one day, her mom discovered she was lactating. No one knew she was pregnant, but they believed she gave birth inside the grave and kept her puppy in there.
After suffering from four miscarriages in the past, the momma dog feared for her baby’s safety. She thought it would be best to raise her child on her own and away from people. And so, she left home.
Eventually, the family took action and brought Ppoppi and her puppy, Kkotbi, home. They improvised a doghouse that had the same ambiance as the cave so they won’t get overwhelmed with the sudden change in their environment. And thankfully, the mother and daughter loved their new home.
