Dogs are naturally kind and empathetic creatures. Witnessing how our dogs care for other species is one of the most joyous things to see and experience. A dog’s character is so remarkable that they also know how to take care of sick and injured animals.
Meet Sarge, a loving German Shepherd who truly cares for other animals — particularly fawns. According to his human mommy Cheryl Stephen, Sarge used to be an unfriendly and grumpy puppy. However, things changed when he met Buckwheat, an injured and orphaned fawn.
Cheryl brought home Buckwheat because she found him helpless in the middle of the road. It’s uncertain what happened to Buckwheat’s mom, but Cheryl made sure to keep the fawn safe until he recovers.
Buckwheat’s arrival at their house changed Sarge’s life instantly. Sarge felt the need to take care of Buckwheat and he wants to help the poor fawn by all means. He became the fawn’s guardian, and he took the role seriously.
Sarge also showed his love and affection to Buckwheat by sharing his space and snuggling beside him. It’s amazing to see how these two different animals develop their friendship, and how comfortable they are in the presence of one another.
When Buckwheat recovered, they returned him to the wild. Since then, Sarge became responsible for giving love and taking care of injured and orphaned animals. It’s like he found his passion and purpose after he met Buckwheat!
Whenever Cheryl brings home another orphaned or injured fawn, Sarge will immediately come to the rescue. The rescued fawns also feel safe around Sarge’s presence as he would guard them with his life and protect them from other animals.
The bond between a dog and injured fawns may seem difficult to achieve, but a canine has its ways to make other animals comfortable in his presence. Once they start spending time together, injured animals improve their health and reduce loneliness. Indeed, it’s a wonderful and astonishing companionship.
