Wherever we go, there’s always a chance that we will come across stray dogs that are desperately trying to survive every single day. However, the situation in Afghanistan is different. The country is still recovering from the war and the government doesn’t have the resources to build a facility for stray dogs. Because of this, stray dogs are rampant in the streets of Afghanistan.
Thankfully, a former soldier named Pen Farthing founded Nowzad Dogs, which is a non-profit animal rescue organization based in Afghanistan. When a US soldier named Sebastian Fluieras found a litter of abandoned puppies while stationed in Afghanistan, he knew that he needed to do something to help. Sebastian took the puppies back with him and spent the night with them. However, Sebastian knew that he needed help with the puppies to ensure that they all get the home that they deserved.
Luckily, Sebastian knew who to call for help. Sebastian called Nowzad Dogs and asked for their help to take care of the puppies. When Pen learned about the puppies, he didn’t have to think twice about taking the dogs in. However, Pen needed to work fast. The soldier wasn’t allowed to get out of the US embassy grounds and Pen wasn’t allowed to go inside.
To help with the handover of the puppies to Nowzad, Pen and the soldier organized for an Afghan national to arrange to take the puppies from the embassy to Pen. Pen met up with the Afghan citizen who took the puppies from the US embassy. Thankfully, it was an easy and painless effort and the puppies eventually came under the care of Nowzad Dogs.
The puppies were treated like family in Nowzad Dogs and they were given the care they needed. Sebastian was also very proactive in finding homes for the puppies back in the US. After a few weeks, Sebastian was able to find homes for all the puppies he rescued. All of the people who wanted the dogs were Afghanistan veterans and knew about the plight of stray dogs in Afghanistan.
After the documents were ready, the puppies were flown back to the US where Sebastian was waiting. Sebastian then handed each puppy over to his fellow veterans. Thanks to Sebastian, the puppies he rescued now have forever homes in the US where they are surely getting the care and love they need. Here’s a heartwarming video showing the rescue of abandoned puppies in Afghanistan and how Nowzad Dogs helped care for them until they found a forever home.
